Hyderabad GHMC: Mega E-Waste Cleanup Campaign from January 12th.
Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation will conduct a mega electronic waste (e-waste) cleanliness drive across 300 wards of the city on the upcoming 12th and 13th of January, under the Swachh Bharat Mission. The drive is being organized to generate widespread awareness about the importance of responsible disposal of electronic waste and to ensure the organized collection, segregation, and scientific disposal of e-waste from residential, commercial, and public areas.
During this period, various types of discarded electronic items will be collected, including large and small household appliances, IT and telecom equipment, consumer electronics, batteries, UPS systems, and other electronic accessories. The drive will be conducted in coordination with HMWSSB Limited. Specially branded e-waste collection vehicles will be deployed in each circle. The collected e-waste will be safely transported to the authorized e-waste processing center in Dundigal, where it will be disposed of in accordance with prevailing e-waste management rules.
According to officials, an awareness campaign will be run from Friday, the 9th of January, to ensure public participation before the main drive. This will involve sanitation workers, Resident Welfare Associations, NGOs, and self-help groups. Temporary collection centers have been identified in each ward for the smooth operation of the drive.
Instructions have been given to Zonal Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, and Sanitation Officers to activate all stakeholders and ensure the successful completion of the drive. It was stated that proper management of e-waste is extremely important for public health and environmental protection. Citizens were urged to participate actively and cooperate in making Hyderabad a clean and green city.
