A Samajwadi Party MP is accused of seizing a Dalit’s land in Sant Kabir Nagar, undermining the PDA.
In Sant Kabir Nagar district, the political equation of a major party leader is being challenged by a local MP. In the Mehndawal tehsil area of the district, a case of illegal occupation of a Dalit family’s land has emerged in Amargarh village. In this case, the victim has accused the MP of misusing his position and influence to occupy the land, removing government markers, and threatening him for opposing it.
On Friday, the victim, Mahendra Kumar, son of Vidyanivas, met the district magistrate during the public audience program and submitted a complaint letter. He stated that he belongs to the Scheduled Caste. He is a transitional landholder of plot number 53/0.172 hectares. He has been doing agricultural work on this land. Adjacent to it is plot number 27, which is a pond. It is alleged that a ten-year lease for fish farming in the pond has been allocated to a cooperative society, which includes people associated with the MP’s family.
At the MP’s behest, his brother, along with associates, forcibly built a bund on the victim’s land. When the victim objected, he was threatened. The revenue department had placed stones for demarcation after measuring the land, but later these were uprooted and thrown away. A pit about five feet deep was dug in the field, and the soil was sold. When the victim protested again, he was threatened once more. After this incident, the family is in a state of panic. The victim has demanded a fair investigation from the district magistrate, removal of the illegal occupation, reinstallation of the uprooted government stones, and action against the guilty.
The district magistrate has directed the sub-divisional magistrate of Mehndawal to investigate the land occupation case. Action will be taken according to rules after the investigation report is received. No one will be allowed to illegally occupy anyone’s land. Meanwhile, the MP said that the lease for fish farming in the pond was issued in 2017-18 in the name of the cooperative society, which is managed by the society’s president and secretary. The bund construction was also carried out by the revenue department. The complainant had the land measured and claimed some of the pond’s land as his own, which is incorrect. All other allegations, including uprooting the demarcation stones and digging up the land to sell soil, are baseless.
