In the Alwarpet area of Chennai, three people died on Thursday when the roof of a popular bar collapsed. The bar, named Sekhmet Bar, is located on Chamiers Road. Investigators reported that the first-floor roof of the bar caved in.
Rescue teams are conducting relief operations at the scene. The cause of the roof collapse has not yet been determined. Meanwhile, some people are pointing fingers at the ongoing metro rail work in front of the bar.
The state fire service chief said, “Three people have died. They have been identified as workers. Rescue teams are working to check if anyone else is trapped.”
The joint commissioner of the eastern zone stated, “Three deaths have been reported. We have launched an investigation. Only after determining the cause will we be able to establish if there is a case against anyone. Based on the investigation, any responsibility that needs to be addressed will be addressed. The debris has been cleared, and we have inspected the site. All three are club employees.”
Officials said the bar was operational at the time of the incident. The joint police commissioner remarked, “We are investigating whether any major heavy work was underway on the metro rail project at that time.” Meanwhile, authorities have begun investigating the causes of the roof collapse. However, the city police have not yet issued any statement.
