The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct the Class 10 and 12 board exams starting February 17 next year.
The board announced a tentative ‘datesheet’ for the important exams. This is the first time that Class 10 board exams will be held twice in one academic session.
The first version will be held from February 17 to March 6, 2026, while the second version will be held from May 15 to June 1.
The second session in May will be optional for students who wish to improve their performance. If a student appears in both sessions, the best score from the two sessions will be considered valid.
Both exams will be conducted on the full syllabus prescribed for the year, and the study plan and exam scheme will remain the same.
The board clarified that no separate supplementary exam will be conducted under this system. Instead, the second session of the board exam will serve as the supplementary exam for students who wish to improve their marks.
Currently, students have the opportunity to improve their marks in supplementary exams.
The Class 12 board exams will be held from February 17 to April 9, 2026.
According to the general guideline, the evaluation of answer sheets will begin approximately 10 days after each subject’s exam and will be completed within 12 days. For example, if the Class 12 Physics exam is scheduled for February 20, 2026, the evaluation is likely to start on March 3, 2026, and be completed by March 15, 2026.
Approximately 4.5 million students from Class 10 and 12 from India and 26 other countries are expected to appear for exams in 204 subjects.
