Sunday, August 31, 2025 — Plans for protest actions on September 1 and 3 in Depok City have been officially canceled. This decision was made after community representatives, led by the protest organizer, conveyed their aspirations directly to the Chair of the Depok City Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) and the Mayor of Depok. The meeting was also attended by the Depok Metro Police Chief and the 05/08 Military District Commander on Friday evening (8/30) at the Depok Mayor’s Office, Jl. Margonda Raya No. 54, Pancoran Mas, Depok City, West Java.

During the meeting, the Mayor of Depok emphasized that the local government is open to receiving public input.

«We thank you for conveying your aspirations tonight. All input will be used as evaluation material for Depok City Government policies, including Mayor Regulation Number 97 of 2021,» he stated.

Similarly, the Chair of the Depok City DPRD expressed concern over the recent heated national situation. He felt that some members of the national legislature were insufficiently sensitive to public conditions, which has led to social dynamics, particularly in Jakarta.

«We regret the attitude of several national legislators who appear to disregard public sentiment. Therefore, the Mayor and I have agreed to review and evaluate the regulation to better align with residents’ expectations,» he said.

He also urged all leaders and members of the Depok City DPRD to work diligently in serving the people and maintaining the city’s conducive atmosphere.

«May Depok remain safe, comfortable, and its residents united in maintaining togetherness,» he added.

Meanwhile, the community representative, also known as a local media organizer, confirmed that the planned protest actions on September 1 and 3 were canceled.

«Because our aspirations have been received directly by the Mayor and the DPRD Chair, witnessed by the Depok Police Chief and the 05/08 Military District Commander, we are canceling the actions on both the 1st and the 3rd,» he explained.

With this decision, residents of Depok City are expected to remain calm, as activities on several main roads, including Margonda, will proceed normally without disruption from protests.

This meeting between the DPRD, the government, and community representatives is hoped to be an initial step toward resolving existing dynamics through dialogue and peaceful means.
