India and Brazil sign three agreements

Brasília/New Delhi, July 09. India and Brazil have signed three agreements and several memoranda of understanding to strengthen bilateral cooperation across all sectors and achieve shared goals of enhancing mutual engagement and business relations between the peoples of both nations.

The agreements were signed following a bilateral meeting and delegation-level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on an official visit to Brazil, and President Lula da Silva late Tuesday night.

In the presence of Modi and Lula, officials from both countries signed agreements on cooperation in combating international terrorism and organized crime, the exchange of classified information and mutual protection agreements, and mutual legal assistance in civil matters.

Additionally, memoranda of understanding were signed on cooperation in renewable energy, agricultural research between Brazil’s Department of Agriculture and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, collaboration on sharing successful large-scale digital solutions for digital transformation, and cooperation in the field of intellectual property.

The two leaders also directed their respective government agencies to work toward finalizing several other bilateral agreements at the earliest. These include MoUs on defense industry cooperation, sports collaboration, archival cooperation, and a Cultural Exchange Program (CEP) for 2025-2029.

Recalling the guiding principles of their foreign policies—peace, prosperity, and sustainable development—both nations agreed on an agenda of growing cooperation between two vibrant democracies with pluralistic identities. This agenda aligns with their distinctive roles in international affairs as co-creators of a more just, inclusive, and sustainable world for all.

After concluding a productive visit to Brazil, Modi departed for Namibia, the final leg of his five-nation tour. The Prime Minister’s visit aims to strengthen bilateral ties, with a focus on education, defense, trade, wildlife conservation, and uranium cooperation. Prior to Namibia, Modi visited Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, and Brazil.
