From July 30, Yokohama Takashimaya (1 Minamisaiwai, Nishi-ku, Yokohama) will host the „[JAL] After Flying in the Sky POP UP SHOP,“ selling upcycled airplane parts that would otherwise have been discarded.
This is a sustainability initiative (SDGs) by Yokohama Takashimaya in collaboration with JAL Engineering (Ota-ku, Tokyo), which handles maintenance for the JAL Group.
The shop will offer products made from retired airplane parts—transformed through the ideas and craftsmanship of maintenance technicians. Available items include:
- A „Miniature Life Vest“ (¥3,630) made from an unused vest removed during routine aircraft maintenance.
- A keychain called „FUSELAGE SKIN TAG“ (¥14,300), crafted from part of the exterior skin of the retired „Boeing 777-200 JA772J.“
- A „Seat Cover Tote Bag“ (¥16,500) made from fire-resistant and durable economy-class seat covers used in the cabin.
- A „Seat Cover Stool“ (¥16,500) featuring upholstery from first, business, and economy-class seats of a Boeing 777, showcasing different leather types.
On August 2 and 3, customers who purchase a „Cabin Window Golf Name Tag“ or „Cabin Window Name Tag“ can have them engraved on-site by JAL technicians (10:00 AM–12:00 PM and 1:00 PM–4:00 PM).
The organizers commented: „This summer, as travel demand rises, airplane parts that once safely accompanied our journeys are given new life—ready for a second ‚flight.'“
The event will take place in the men’s accessories event area on the 6th floor. Hours: 10:00 AM–8:00 PM (last day until 5:00 PM). Duration: until August 12.
