JOMBANG — An attempt to illegally distribute Balinese arak (traditional liquor) was thwarted by the police. A truck carrying 506 bottles of the liquor was intercepted by officers while passing through Jarakkulon Village, Jogoroto District, on Friday night (19/7/2025).
The authorities explained that the case came to light after receiving reports from residents who suspected cross-provincial illegal liquor sales. Officers conducted an investigation and found a yellow-and-blue Mitsubishi truck with license plate AG 8782 EE parked by the roadside.
„The method used was quite meticulous. The liquor was packed in cardboard boxes and covered with a blue tarp to deceive officers,“ said the police spokesperson.
Upon inspection, officers discovered 506 bottles of Balinese arak packed in dozens of boxes. All evidence was seized, including the transport vehicle.
One suspect was arrested in connection with the case: Irfan (45), a resident of Keplaksari Village, Peterongan District, Jombang.
According to the police, the Balinese arak was allegedly shipped directly from Bali and intended for distribution in Jombang and surrounding areas.
„We are still investigating whether there is a larger network behind this liquor distribution. The suspect is currently undergoing intensive questioning at Jogoroto Police Station,“ the spokesperson stated.
The police emphasized that this case is part of their commitment to cracking down on illegal liquor distribution. They noted that such liquor often leads to public disturbances and criminal activity.
„Many criminal acts stem from liquor consumption, ranging from violence to accidents. Therefore, we will continue conducting regular patrols and operations to curb its circulation,“ the spokesperson concluded.
