The Mid-Autumn Festival will be celebrated on October 6th. This year’s mid-autumn moon will be “fuller on the 16th day than on the 15th,” with the peak fullness occurring at 11:48 AM on the 7th. Notably, this mid-autumn full moon ranks as the third largest among all full moons this year, making it a “supermoon.”

Astronomy experts remind us that since the peak fullness occurs during daytime, interested observers can appreciate this mid-autumn moon on the evening of the 6th or the evening of the 7th.

Mid-Autumn Festival

The Mid-Autumn Festival is a major harvest celebration with roots in China’s ancient moon worship traditions over 3,000 years ago. Today, it is widely celebrated across East and Southeast Asia, where families gather to admire the full moon, share mooncakes, and light lanterns. The festival symbolizes family reunion and is rich with legends, most notably the tale of Chang’e, the Moon Goddess.
