SHENZHEN, Aug. 26 — On August 25, Shenzhen traffic police officially launched a new feature called “New Vehicle License Plate Registration in One Go”. Citizens who purchase eligible new vehicles can now complete the registration process entirely online by filling in their information, eliminating the need to schedule appointments, take numbers, or wait in line. The offline acceptance and waiting process is waived, allowing new car owners to easily complete vehicle registration from home.

So, what are the eligibility criteria? The vehicle must be a small or micro non-operational passenger car. The vehicle owner must be an individual. The app required is the new version of the “Traffic Management 12123” app (version 3.2.9 or above, registered in Shenzhen). A small car indicator obtained in accordance with relevant regulations is required for vehicle registration within the city’s administrative area. Additionally, pre-inspection information from the manufacturer is necessary.

The new version of the “Traffic Management 12123” app now enables cross-departmental and cross-platform data integration. Eligible applicants for new vehicle license plate registration no longer need to submit paper documents. They can complete procedures such as online insurance purchase, license plate selection, and registration application directly through the app. License plates and documents are mailed directly to the owner’s address. For eligible vehicle owners, this achieves a fully online process for license plate registration.

When processing the service, those who haven’t purchased a vehicle or insurance can click “Select Vehicle and Purchase Insurance” to buy compulsory traffic insurance online. Those who have already purchased a vehicle and insurance can directly click “New Vehicle License Plate Registration” to proceed to the next step. Currently, some manufacturers of non-operational small and micro passenger cars share vehicle inspection and sales information with traffic management departments. Owners of these vehicles are exempt from on-site inspections. After confirming pre-inspection, they can directly proceed to the “Apply for License Plate” step. Whether a specific vehicle model qualifies for pre-inspection should be confirmed with the car dealer at the time of purchase. Currently, this mainly applies to some domestic models.

Then, follow the system prompts to complete license plate selection, payment, and mailing procedures. The license plate application can be completed in just a few minutes. The traffic management department reminds applicants that to avoid online processing abnormalities or rejections leading to expiration of the indicator, those with indicators expiring within 15 days should process their registration offline.
