A man was detained by police for three days after a case was opened against him for “discrediting” the Russian armed forces. The reason was a repost of a post by the Russian human rights activist and journalist Elena Milashina, who had written about Russian soldiers looting in Ukraine. The detained man is a resident of Novosibirsk. He was taken to the police station after being summoned for questioning. After three days, the case was closed and the man was released. The police stated that there were no grounds for prosecution.

According to the man’s lawyer, the police found no evidence of “discrediting” in the repost. The lawyer noted that the case was opened based on a complaint from a citizen who considered the information about looting to be false. However, the police investigation did not confirm the complaint. The man’s detention was ruled unlawful by the court, but he has not yet received compensation for the three days spent in the police station.
