Topic: “Garden Concert” Captivates Office Workers, Reimagining the Significance of Public Space in Chongqing’s Zhaomushan Characteristic Industrial Parks
As dusk fell like ink, slowly enveloping the forest of industrial buildings at the foot of Zhaomushan. Glass curtain walls reflected scattered golden light after the rain cleared. On the evening of April 10th, a garden corner within the IN7 SPACE of Chongqing Mercury Industrial Design & Cultural Park was quietly brewing an “escape ritual” from the daily grind.
A guitarist in a white T-shirt tuned his strings and sang softly, notes falling lightly like dewdrops. Among the young people seated around the stage, some still wore their work badges, with craft beers freshly bought beside them. More urban office workers gradually emerged from the surrounding industrial buildings, drawn by the music, finding a spot of relaxation amidst the greenery and melodies.
“It’s like suddenly falling into another time tunnel,” said Lin Wei, a Gen Z product manager, holding a glow stick and gently closing her eyes to the song “Trading Lifetimes” at 8 PM. She pointed to the office building behind her, still lit up. “Usually, we’d still be in a review meeting at this hour, but hearing about the concert nearby today, we all tacitly agreed to wrap up work early.”
Notes and Evening Breeze: The Office Workers’ “Mental Quick Charge”
A representative from the Atour Hotel within the park brought out-of-town business guests to relax at the concert. He hoped that the guests, having come from afar, could feel the unique warmth and lively atmosphere of this industrial cluster through the melodies.
Zhao Xin, a finance professional who works late at least three nights a week, specifically adjusted his schedule for the concert. “When the singer performed ‘Intimate Lover,’ I suddenly remembered nights singing on the university sports field,” he said. This kind of relaxation, he noted, is a healing that no amount of coffee can replace.

Since last year, from the “Mercury Lawn Music Festival” to the “Take a Break! Take a Break!” lunchtime concert series in various characteristic industrial parks around Zhaomushan, such park events have been quietly reshaping the leisure routines of urban office workers. They are no longer just interludes between work tasks but have become actively chosen “mental quick-charge stations” for young people.
Zhao Xin stated that high-quality leisure spaces are a crucial factor affecting job satisfaction, and the public cultural activities in industrial parks are becoming important settings for them to “heal their lives.”
From “Industrial Park” to “Living Community”: The Reconstruction of Public Space
The transformation of the Mercury Industrial Design & Cultural Park is not accidental. A park service specialist pointed to the central lawn and explained: “This area was originally a parking lot. We held multiple discussion sessions with tenant companies and finally decided to replace the hard paving with grass, freeing up more leisure space and creating a ‘mobile stage.'”
He also discussed the origin of the IN7 SPACE garden. “From the initial recruitment of Brother Decoration · Creative Cube, the park aimed to co-create with the enterprise a semi-open space where one can ‘join at any time or quietly exit.’ This meets the needs of companies for outdoor team-building, parties, and meetings, while also making this space a poetic retreat in everyone’s daily work life.”

This “user co-creation” approach is key to optimizing the business environment in industrial parks. “Employees no longer have to just go home and scroll through their phones after work!” remarked an administrative director from a landscape company in the park. “They are willing to stay
