On the afternoon of May 25, President Xi Jinping met at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who was on an official visit to China.

Xi Jinping stated that over the 75 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan, the two countries have fostered mutual understanding, mutual trust, and mutual support, forging an unbreakable traditional friendship. Their strategic trust and pragmatic cooperation have effectively promoted each other’s national development. Regardless of changes in the international situation, China always prioritizes the development of China-Pakistan relations in its neighborhood diplomacy. Not long ago, I received a letter from Pakistani students at Tianjin University. The students are determined to become builders of China-Pakistan cooperation, disseminators of exchanges, and guardians of friendship. Seeing the friendly cause between the two countries carried forward by the younger generation fills me with great comfort. Both sides should accelerate the building of an even closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future in the new era, achieve more results in all-weather cooperation, better benefit the two peoples, contribute to regional peace and stability, and set an example for building a community with a shared future with neighboring countries.

Xi Jinping emphasized that China firmly supports Pakistan in safeguarding its independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. China is willing to maintain high-level exchanges with Pakistan, strengthen strategic communication, and steer the bilateral relations in the right direction. Both sides should solidly advance the action plan for building a China-Pakistan community with a shared future, coordinate major landmark projects and “small yet smart” livelihood projects, and deepen comprehensive cooperation in agriculture, industry, artificial intelligence, and talent cultivation. The two sides should engage in higher-level and broader security cooperation to jointly maintain regional peace and stability. China appreciates Pakistan’s proactive role in mediating for peace in the Middle East. Both sides should continue close communication and coordination, jointly oppose unilateralism and Cold War mentality, and jointly promote an equal and orderly multipolar world and inclusive economic globalization that benefits all.

Shehbaz Sharif stated that President Xi Jinping is a great friend of the Pakistani people and a great friend of all peace-loving people in the world. Under President Xi Jinping’s strong leadership, China’s economy has achieved remarkable success, providing solid guarantees for maintaining world peace and building a multipolar world. The iron-clad friendship between Pakistan and China, forged by the older generation of leaders of both countries, has grown stronger over time and is unparalleled. Pakistan firmly adheres to the One-China principle, steadfastly supports China’s stance on all issues concerning China’s core interests, and will forever be China’s good friend and good partner. Pakistan is willing to jointly celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations with China, learn from China’s governance experience, deepen Belt and Road cooperation, advance the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, and continuously develop Pakistan-China relations to benefit the two peoples. Pakistan thanks China for supporting its mediation in the US-Iran negotiations. The four-point proposal put forward by President Xi Jinping on the Middle East situation is a guiding plan for achieving peace. Pakistan is willing to closely coordinate with China to jointly contribute to world peace and stability.

Wang Yi attended the meeting.
