National fitness is the foundation and guarantee for all people to strengthen their physique and live a healthy life. The importance of physical fitness has been emphasized: “We must aim to enhance people’s health, improve the physical quality of the entire nation, and elevate the quality of life. The vital role of sports in promoting comprehensive human development should be highly valued and fully utilized.”
Since national fitness was elevated to a national strategy in 2014, a series of important documents have been issued to promote the construction of fitness facilities and the development of mass sports. These efforts aim to build a higher-level public service system for national fitness, ensuring it covers, serves, and benefits all people.
By the end of 2024, the number of sports venues in the country reached 4.84 million, covering approximately 4.23 billion square meters. The per capita sports area reached 3.0 square meters, surpassing the target of 2.6 square meters set for the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan period. With the continuous improvement of the national fitness environment, citizens can now engage in their preferred fitness activities right in their neighborhoods. National fitness is becoming a shared consensus and action across society.
