The Education Department of Sichuan Province has announced the second batch of proposed higher education institutions for 2025, disclosing plans for two new schools: Chengdu Academy of Fine Arts and Chengdu Light Industry Vocational and Technical University. The public notice period runs from August 4 to August 8, 2025.
The announcement indicates that Chengdu Academy of Fine Arts is proposed as a public undergraduate institution, to be established based on the existing Fine Arts College of Sichuan Conservatory of Music.
The Fine Arts College of Sichuan Conservatory of Music was founded in 2000 and currently has nearly 4,000 full-time undergraduate and graduate students. It consists of 12 departments: Chinese Painting, Oil Painting, Sculpture, Animation, Industrial Design, Visual Communication Design, Environmental Art, Digital Media Art, Public Art, Art and Technology, Printmaking, and Experimental Art. The college offers 10 undergraduate programs with 12 specializations, and holds master’s degree authorization in first-level disciplines of art, as well as professional master’s degrees in fine arts, calligraphy, and design.
Chengdu Light Industry Vocational and Technical University is proposed as a public vocational undergraduate institution.
Currently, Sichuan Province has three vocational undergraduate institutions: Chengdu Vocational University of Art (private), Sichuan Engineering Vocational and Technical University (public), and Chengdu Aeronautic Vocational and Technical University (public). If approved, Chengdu Light Industry Vocational and Technical University would become the fourth vocational undergraduate institution in the province.
