The West Java Provincial Government has responded quickly to the demands of the Bela Ojol Affan Kurniawan mass action that took place at the West Java DPRD Building on August 29–30, 2025. One of the main demands of the masses was improved welfare for online motorcycle taxi (ojol) partners.
Following up on this, the West Java Provincial Government signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the BPJS Employment. This protection scheme not only covers ojol drivers but also other vulnerable worker groups such as online transportation drivers, farmers, fishermen, manual laborers, scavengers, and street vendors.
«There are motorcycle taxis, Grab drivers, then there are farmers, fishermen, manual laborers, porters, scavengers, street vendors, all of whom we will insure. The annual premium is IDR 201 thousand and it is planned to be implemented through cooperation,» said the West Java Governor at Gedung Sate on Monday (1/9).
The governor emphasized that the premium financing is not fully borne by the West Java Provincial Government. The scheme prepared is a cost-sharing arrangement with regents/mayors and ojol application providers. «For example, if IDR 200 thousand is split in half, that is our commitment to building a sense of justice in society,» he said.
He gave an example of an ojol driver who had an accident resulting in amputation and had been covering medical expenses on their own until now. «In the future, such things will be covered by BPJS Employment, including the need for prosthetic legs and rehabilitation,» he explained.
Regarding the budget, the governor said this program will be implemented gradually. For the remaining four months of this year, the West Java Provincial Government has prepared an allocation of approximately IDR 60 billion in the 2025 Revised Regional Budget. «Next year, we will recalculate together with regents and mayors,» he said.
However, he emphasized that he will not provide assistance to regions that are reluctant to cooperate with BPJS Employment. «If the regent or mayor doesn’t want to, I will not provide a budget to that region. If the people protest, please ask their regional head,» the governor stated firmly.
The targets of this program will later refer to the National Single Socio-Economic Data (DTSEN), so that the distribution of BPJS Employment benefits will be more precisely targeted to ojol drivers and vulnerable worker sectors in West Java.

The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) officially approved the establishment on August 26, 2025. This is based on the Third Amendment Bill to Law Number 8 of 2019 concerning the Implementation of Hajj and Umrah Worship.
The establishment is planned to take over all management of Hajj and Umrah worship from the Ministry of Religion, aiming to create integrated and efficient one-stop service.
Regarding this matter, a resident of Lembang District, Taufik Kurnaefi (48) said that he had registered as a waiting list for prospective Hajj pilgrims approximately six years ago.
«I registered together with my wife since around 2019 and until now I’m still waiting for departure,» he said on Sunday (31/8/2025).
He added that he acknowledged knowing about the government’s plan to establish a new Ministry specifically dealing with Hajj and Umrah. Regarding this plan, he welcomed it positively.
«As a member of the public, I welcome the plan to establish,» he said.
He hopes that the establishment will have a positive impact on the management of Hajj and Umrah worship for Indonesian pilgrims in the future.
«It’s good because it will be more focused in serving Hajj pilgrims both in terms of data collection, services, and ensuring that the facilities obtained by Hajj pilgrims are maximized when in the holy land,» he emphasized.
