An attempt to smuggle a large quantity of diesel fuel in the Msallata municipality was thwarted. A judicial control officer, acting on an order from the Public Prosecution, seized fourteen thousand liters of fuel on Friday evening, which were prepared for disposal outside official channels.
The Office of the Attorney General stated in an official announcement that it received a report indicating that the fuel delivery commissioner in Msallata was depriving the municipality’s residents of their allocated quantities by refusing to market it and attempting to smuggle it for the benefit of groups active in fuel smuggling. Consequently, the Public Prosecution authorized the judicial control officer to proceed and investigate.

The control procedures resulted in proving the commissioner’s dereliction of the public interest duties entrusted to him. It was revealed that he refrained from distributing fourteen thousand liters of diesel fuel and transferred this quantity to an annex of his house, in preparation for disposing of it for the benefit of fuel smuggling networks, in clear violation of his job duties and the laws regulating fuel distribution.
Based on the investigation’s results, the investigative authority ordered the confiscation of the seized fuel, the questioning of the arrested commissioner, and his referral to the Public Prosecution to take the necessary legal measures against him.

The Public Prosecution confirmed in its statement that it continues to take measures aimed at curbing fuel smuggling activity, due to the direct harm it causes to the national economy and citizens’ rights to obtain basic services.
It also emphasized that it will continue to pursue anyone proven to be involved in harming the public interest or exploiting their official position for illicit gains, in order to ensure the protection of public resources and the achievement of justice.
