Recently, “Brother Gazi” Xie Mengwei was sentenced to 7 days of administrative detention by the Gengma Dai and Wa Autonomous County Public Security Bureau in Yunnan for wearing a police uniform during a live-streaming sales event.

On September 18, Xie Mengwei’s Kuaishou account was banned, making it impossible to view videos on his profile. Before the ban, he had 11.165 million followers.

Previously, while watching a live stream by “Gazi Xie Mengwei,” netizens noticed he was wearing an official people’s police uniform to promote products and reported it to the Yunnan police in the relevant jurisdiction.

Related videos show that on the morning of September 10, during a live stream on an online platform, “Gazi Xie Mengwei” wore an official people’s police uniform. Although he did not have a police number or chest emblem, he wore police shoulder and arm patches. During the broadcast, besides interacting with fans, he promoted and sold an electronic device that combines a power bank and a portable Wi-Fi hotspot.

On September 17, the Gengma County Public Security Bureau in Yunnan issued a police notification stating that he was lawfully sentenced to 7 days of administrative detention.

Article 11 of the “Regulations on the Management of People’s Police Uniforms and Their Insignia” states that film production units and performance troupes must obtain approval from provincial-level public security authorities for the use of people’s police uniforms and insignia for filming or performances, and they must store them securely. Use outside of filming or performances is prohibited.

Public information shows that Xie Mengwei, born on March 4, 1989, in Xiong County, Baoding City, Hebei Province, is a Chinese actor and director. In 2003, he gained fame for playing the lead role of Zhang Ga in the TV series “Soldier Zhang Ga,” earning him the nickname “Brother Gazi” among netizens.
