On the morning of September 4, President Xi Jinping met with Vietnamese President Luong Cuong at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, who was visiting China to attend commemorations marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
Xi Jinping pointed out that the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War fully demonstrates that those who uphold justice will gain broad support, while those who undermine it will find themselves isolated. Victory will ultimately belong to the side of justice. China and Vietnam should jointly remember history and honor the martyrs, strengthen strategic coordination, safeguard the outcomes of World War II, uphold international fairness and justice, and firmly stand on the right side of history.
Xi Jinping emphasized that China supports Vietnam in pursuing the socialist path suited to its national conditions and in successfully convening the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam. The two sides should deepen exchanges on governance and party-building experience in the spirit of comradeship and brotherhood, successfully organize events marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the “China-Vietnam Year of People-to-People Exchanges,” and deliver tangible benefits to the peoples of both countries. In the face of the adverse trends of unilateralism and the law of the jungle, more and more countries have come to realize that compromise and concession lead nowhere, while unity and self-strengthening offer hope. The Global Governance Initiative proposed by China aims to promote a more just and reasonable development of the global governance system. China is willing to work with Vietnam to safeguard the common interests of the Global South and contribute more positive energy to the world.
Luong Cuong warmly congratulated China on successfully holding the commemorations for the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Tianjin, stating that both important events demonstrate China’s international status and influence. Vietnam firmly believes that China will continue to develop and grow, achieve the goals of Chinese modernization, and play a greater role in regional and global peace and development. The relations between the two Parties and the two countries are developing well, with frequent high-level exchanges and smooth progress in cooperation across various fields. Relations with China hold strategic significance for Vietnam and are the top priority of its foreign policy. In the face of a complex and changing global situation, Vietnam remains steadfast in developing relations with China. Vietnam is willing to work closely with China, support each other, enhance political mutual trust, and strengthen exchanges on governance experience. Vietnam aims to deepen the alignment of development strategies, expand cooperation in trade, infrastructure, technology, education, and other fields. The two sides will coordinate in multilateral platforms, uphold the authority of the United Nations and international trade rules, and promote the reform and improvement of the global governance system.
Wang Yi attended the meeting.
