It has been learned that the recently concluded Shanghai-Macau Medical and Cultural Exchange has injected new momentum into promoting cooperative development between the two regions. Through the signing of a series of strategic agreements and the hosting of a symposium on the development of young medical talents, universities in Shanghai and Macau have further deepened their consensus on cooperation in the medical field, establishing a high-level cooperative platform that leverages the complementary advantages and resource sharing of both regions.

It was disclosed that the medical school signed multiple cooperation agreements with the University of Macau and Macau University of Science and Technology to deepen student exchanges, talent cultivation, and scientific research collaboration. The „Special Exhibition on the Medical Achievements of Academician Wang Zhenyi“ was held in Macau, and the drama „The Peony of Poverty“ premiered in Macau, vividly showcasing the medical accomplishments and noble spirit of Academician Wang Zhenyi through both academic and artistic forms.

The cooperation memorandum and summer research practice agreement were officially signed between the two institutions. Previously, the two sides had already achieved multiple collaborative results in the field of medical research. The new agreements will further promote exchanges between faculty and students, disciplinary collaboration, and the transformation of scientific research outcomes, leveraging the scientific research and policy advantages of both Shanghai and Macau to drive in-depth integration and development in the medical field.

During the exchange, a comprehensive cooperation memorandum and a student research practice agreement were signed, which will promote all-around collaboration and expand exchanges in teaching and research. This will serve as an opportunity to export high-quality medical education resources to Macau while also providing students with valuable opportunities for study and research in the Greater Bay Area, broadening their international perspectives and practical abilities. The two institutions also jointly hosted the „Shanghai-Macau Young Medical Talent Development Symposium.“

During the exchange, the „Special Exhibition on the Medical Achievements of Academician Wang Zhenyi“ grandly opened at Macau University of Science and Technology, presenting the outstanding contributions of Academician Wang Zhenyi, a recipient of the „Medal of the Republic,“ through precious historical materials. As one of the exhibition narrators, a researcher highlighted the innovative model of „basic research-patent layout-industrial transformation“ practiced by the medical school. Through the practical application of this model, the team has successfully explored replicable and promotable experiences, providing support for the development of Shanghai’s biomedical industry hub.

In addition to the exhibition, the drama „The Peony of Poverty,“ based on Academician Wang Zhenyi, successfully premiered at Macau University of Science and Technology, with nearly 400 attendees, including individuals from various sectors and alumni from the medical school in Hong Kong and Macau. The new version of „The Peony of Poverty“ underwent comprehensive upgrades in stage design, lighting, sound equipment, and script. For the first time, the drama incorporated Academician Wang Zhenyi’s educational journey, love story, and details of his mentorship. Through this drama, Macau audiences can gain a deeper understanding of Shanghai’s medical culture and humanistic spirit.

The premiere of „The Peony of Poverty“ in Macau conveyed values such as rigorous and realistic scientific spirit, selfless dedication of medical professionals, and tireless mentorship through artistic appeal, making them tangible for Macau’s teachers, students, and the public. Macau audiences expressed that Shanghai possesses rich cultural resources and profound cultural heritage, while Macau has unique characteristics of blending Chinese and Western cultures. Cultural exchange activities can promote mutual learning and借鉴 between the two regions.
