In eastern Uganda, a Yokohama-based NPO is working to promote reusable cloth pads for schoolgirls who cannot afford menstrual products due to poverty. Previously, they were forced to miss school or drop out due to unhygienic conditions and lack of understanding from those around them. The initiative has shown significant effects such as improved academic performance, and the children say with shining eyes, “School is so much fun now.”

Seventh-grade student Iratuz Fibi explains with a smile. At Sacred Heart Jinja Karoli Primary School (7-year system, approximately 700 students) in Nansana City on the outskirts of the capital, both boys and girls make them together at school.
“The students gain knowledge and experience, and especially the boys learn to understand and help the girls.”
