The ongoing dispute between actress Jennifer and producer Asit Modi of the show “Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah” has taken a new turn. Jennifer has filed a case against Asit Modi, operation head Sohel Ramani, and executive producer Jatin Bajaj. Mumbai police have registered a case against the three under IPC sections 354 and 509. However, no arrests have been made so far.
Jennifer spoke about her case, stating, “I gave my statement on May 24. After that, there was no visible progress. At one point, I was called to the police station. The police informed me that they had taken Asit Modi’s statement on June 3, where he claimed that I had not yet sent the bills to the production house. However, I had already submitted bills for December, January, and February. I did not submit March’s bill because I had received a notice from the production house at that time. Ironically, in his statement, he praised me. After this, I waited for further developments, but nothing happened. After a long wait, I filed the case two days ago. I was at the police station from 7:30 PM until midnight, giving my statement.”
Jennifer further said, “From the beginning, I didn’t want anything. In fact, I was going to remain silent in this entire matter. But they kept sending me notices, leveling accusations against me. The media reported that I engage in misconduct, use abusive language, and instigate fights. It was only after such claims that I came forward to present my side.”
Formed Their Own Committee
“When they remained silent for a long time, I suspected something was wrong. Then, on Saturday, my lawyer received a lengthy notice. In response, they wrote that on May 22, they had formed an internal committee called ICC for women, which included workers from their own production house—such as a hairstylist, accountant, and personal assistant. They wrote that I should come forward, and they would resolve my issues, pay the dues, listen to my concerns, and take strict action against Asit Modi. The irony is that this committee’s formation was written on the letterhead of Neela Films—the same production company owned by the producer I am accusing of sexual harassment. They expect me to believe that a committee formed under his own company will fight my case. Who would trust this? They also stated that I cannot bring my lawyer to the committee meeting or speak to the media about it.”
Accused of Causing Disturbance After Drinking
“Now, a letter has been sent by Asit Modi’s side to this ICC committee, attempting to defame me. It claims that I caused disturbances on set after drinking, assaulted my co-actors, and dominated them. It also falsely states that Jennifer was not removed during her pregnancy—instead, they allege that I took advantage of her pregnancy to return to the show. Just think—how is that possible? They wrote that there was a familial atmosphere on set and that Asit Modi sees himself as a father figure to everyone.”
Asit Modi’s Response
Regarding Jennifer’s FIR, Asit Modi said, “I deny all these allegations. I have already given my statement to the police. I have no information about the FIR registration. Currently, the matter is under investigation, so I cannot comment further during this legal process.”
