The past has two faces, both engraved in memory: a beautiful face and another that changes, but moves within the realm of sadness. Both do not die with the passage of time. The past is not a black box requiring experts to read its hidden upheavals; it is an open book in the present that we flip through when we yearn for the past.
“The past does not die… it is reborn in the present in a thousand and one forms.” Places, things, people, and events remind us of the past and are stored in many forms in memory. The past is a dream, the present is reality, and the future is known only to God. You cannot change the past, but you can correct it within a narrow scope in the present. However, the future can be turned into achievable goals.
I wonder: can a person completely forget harsh and painful events from the past? I believe it is impossible to forget those painful events, and regret over the past is not enough.
Unfortunately, there are those whose painful past controls their present, turning them into a moody, troubled person who is not clear in their dealings with others who have no fault. And there are those whose beautiful past controls the details of their life, turning it into a beautiful garden that delights the eyes and enchants them with its diverse flowers and fragrant scent. Longing for the past gives a positive charge to the brain and contributes to beautifying the present.
I wonder: can a person forget the painful past? Certainly not, as it is stored in memory. I quote: “Every day I live is a gift from God, and I will not waste it by worrying about the future or grieving over the past.”
The past is a heavy burden, ugly images, and distorted memories, so a person moves to the present hoping to forget. At the same time, the past carries within it beautiful moments that one wishes never to forget—and how could they forget them, as they are stored in memory unless affected by life’s upheavals? The past, with its sweetness and bitterness, is an important part of our lives; indeed, it is the driver of our present and the comfort of our souls, affecting inner peace, psychological satisfaction, and tranquility.
In our lives and around us, we sit with and hear much about people drowning in the past—and if only it were the beautiful past, but rather the painful past that has affected the present, leaving a person spinning around themselves, not knowing where to go. How painful it is not to get rid of that painful dream. But the past was not rosy and free of troubles.
I hope that the painful past does not repeat in the beautiful present, spoiling the beauty of the present and affecting the future. Forget the pain of your past and erase from your memory those situations you do not desire. A person’s past is history, and history is not erased by the present or the future. Even if it disappears for a time, it must return and be remembered.
A whisper to the present of a person: What you are doing now is the past in the future. Be careful that your past is bright, smiling with the smile of those you love.
“He who is strangled by the voice of the past cannot address the future!”
