Palace Press Officer Claire Castro on Tuesday brushed aside speculation over a viral video showing First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos and Senator Alan Peter Cayetano in conversation at a recent event, saying the two appeared to be simply engaged in a friendly exchange.

Castro was referring to a video of the First Lady and Cayetano speaking on the sidelines of the dinner reception hosted by the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII) on June 8.

In the video, Cayetano appeared to lean in repeatedly while speaking to Mrs. Marcos, prompting the First Lady to lean away at one point, seemingly in discomfort.

At another moment, she was seen shaking her head, appearing to indicate disagreement with what Cayetano was saying.

“First of all, I was not with the First Lady, so I do not know exactly what they talked about,” Castro said.

“But definitely, considering the kindness of our First Lady, it was probably just a friendly conversation or an exchange of pleasantries. From what I know of her, that’s how the First Lady is,” she added.

Castro also said she does not believe the conversation involved politics, despite recent developments surrounding the Senate leadership dispute.

“As far as I can tell, there was nothing political about it.”
