New Delhi, 09 June 2026. The Delhi government is considering appointing former Agniveers to operational positions in the Delhi Fire Service to strengthen firefighting services in the capital. New employment opportunities may soon open up for young people who have completed their service under the Agniveer scheme in the army. News of preparations to deploy former Agniveers in the Delhi Fire Service has raised hopes among thousands of youth. It is reported that a detailed plan will be prepared in this regard, based on which the recruitment and appointment process can proceed.
At Monday’s meeting, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Home Minister Ashish Sood, PWD Minister Pravesh Verma, along with senior officials from the police and various departments, were present. The Lieutenant Governor suggested exploring the possibility of utilizing the services of former Agniveers to fill vacant positions in the fire department.
Agniveers receive special training during their military service in disaster management, discipline, physical fitness, working in emergency situations, and leadership skills. Experts believe these skills make them suitable candidates for firefighting and rescue services. In this context, their appointment in the Delhi Fire Service could provide the department with trained and experienced human resources.
The government and related departments have consistently stated their intention to explore possibilities for the rehabilitation and employment of former Agniveers. In this direction, the proposal for deployment in the Delhi Fire Service is considered an important step. If this plan is implemented, a large number of youth could get respectable employment opportunities after their service.
According to experts, the training background of Agniveers can help them play an effective role in tasks such as firefighting, rescue operations, disaster relief, and emergency management. This is expected to strengthen the efficiency and response capability of the Delhi Fire Service.
Currently, the process of initial discussions and planning is ongoing at the departmental level. The plan to be prepared in the coming days will clarify how the recruitment, selection process, and service conditions for former Agniveers will be implemented. This initiative is seen as a new mission and new responsibility for the youth.
