The Gedebage area is the most promising location for the permanent construction site in Bandung City. Out of four locations currently being assessed by the government, the East Bandung region is considered to best meet the requirements set by the central government.

The Head of the Bandung City Social Service stated that the search for land is ongoing in collaboration with the Regional Financial and Asset Agency and the Ministry of Social Affairs. The land search process is a crucial step before the construction of the permanent facility can begin.

Four locations are under government review: Ujungberung, Cibiru, the border area towards Garut, and Gedebage. However, after mapping, the location options have narrowed down to Gedebage.

“Of the four locations—Ujungberung, Cibiru, the Garut direction, and Gedebage—the possibility now narrows down to the Gedebage area,” he said on Sunday, June 7, 2026.

He explained that the chosen location must not only have adequate land area but also comply with spatial planning regulations. Land classified as protected rice fields, green open spaces, or areas with special protection cannot be used for the construction.

“The site in Gedebage meets the criteria for the People’s School, but the obstacle remains the land area,” he said.

The land area requirement poses the biggest challenge for Bandung City. The central government requires a minimum of five hectares for the permanent People’s School construction, while the availability of land of that size in urban areas is very limited.

Therefore, the Bandung City Government continues to communicate with the Ministry of Social Affairs to find the best solution. The Social Service hopes that the available location can still be considered even if its size does not fully meet the requirements.

“We will try to negotiate with the Ministry of Social Affairs so that the land area is at least close to the existing requirements. Reaching five hectares might be difficult in Bandung City,” he said.

He added that while awaiting certainty on the construction, the pilot People’s School program continues in Bandung City. Currently, 250 students are participating in the program, consisting of 50 elementary school students, 100 junior high school students, and 100 senior high school students studying at three different locations.
