Urgent warning from meteorology: Shocking weather mixing extreme heat with thunderstorms… new restrictions for citizens!

The General Authority of Civil Aviation and Meteorology has issued a new list of restrictions for citizens, warning them against being in flood channels and valleys or under thunderstorms, and against walking on slippery muddy roads. In desert and coastal areas, direct exposure to sunlight at noon is prohibited, amid expectations of shocking weather combining extreme heat with scattered thunderstorms.

These warnings come as the Center for Weather Forecasting and Early Warning expects generally extremely hot weather to continue, amidst a mixed weather condition predicting thunderstorms in various parts of the highlands and western and southwestern slopes.

Dry and harsh heat forecasts dominate desert and plateau areas during the day, while the bulletin expects coastal and nearby areas to be hot to very hot with high humidity, raising the perceived temperature, and they may also experience scattered rain.

The center also issued a special warning for fishermen and sea-goers in the Socotra Archipelago, the Arabian Sea, and the eastern Gulf of Aden regarding wind activity and sea disturbance, expecting the sea condition along the Socotra Archipelago coasts to be moderate waves, and in the Arabian Sea also moderate waves.

Socotra Archipelago

The Socotra Archipelago, located in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Yemen, is renowned for its extraordinary biodiversity and unique plant life, such as the dragon’s blood tree. Geologically isolated for millions of years, it has been a strategic trading hub since ancient times, mentioned in historical texts like the Periplus of the Erythraean Sea. Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage site, valued for its endemic species and cultural heritage shaped by centuries of maritime trade.

Arabian Sea

The Arabian Sea is a vast body of water located between the Arabian Peninsula and the Indian subcontinent, serving as a crucial maritime trade route for centuries. Its history is deeply tied to the monsoon-driven trade networks that connected the Roman Empire, Persia, India, and Southeast Asia, facilitating the exchange of spices, textiles, and ideas. Today, it remains a vital economic and geopolitical region, bordered by countries like India, Pakistan, Iran, Oman, and Somalia.

Gulf of Aden

The Gulf of Aden is a deep-water gulf located between Yemen on the Arabian Peninsula and Somalia in the Horn of Africa, connecting the Red Sea to the Indian Ocean via the Bab el-Mandeb strait. Historically, it has been a crucial maritime trade route for centuries, linking the Mediterranean to Asia and facilitating the exchange of goods like spices, frankincense, and myrrh. In modern times, it remains a vital shipping lane but has also gained notoriety for piracy and geopolitical tensions.
