Depok City

The Directorate General of Immigration arrested a foreign national from the United States identified as AW. The man was wanted by US authorities for a case in his home country.

AW was arrested while hiding in a bunker at his home in the Sawangan area, Depok City, West Java, on Thursday, April 23.

“Secured a foreign national from the United States identified as AW in a bunker at his residence in Sawangan, Depok,” according to a statement from the Directorate General of Immigration on their Instagram account @ditjen_imigrasi on Friday, June 5, 2026.

AW, a US fugitive, was known to have entered Indonesia in 2011 to avoid legal proceedings for a sexual abuse case he committed in the US. The arrest was made after the Directorate General of Immigration received a request for assistance from the US Embassy and conducted a series of investigations and intelligence operations.

The case came to light after a woman identified as NM reported to the Directorate General of Immigration that she and her two children were subjected to restrictions on their freedom by AW and were victims of sexual abuse. The Directorate General of Immigration also coordinated with US authorities.

Indonesian Immigration arrests a US citizen identified as AW. The man was wanted by US authorities for a sexual abuse case in his home country.

“After facilitating the return of NM and her children to the United States, Immigration coordinated with US authorities to trace AW’s legal status until his whereabouts were finally found and he was secured in Depok,” the statement said.

From an immigration perspective, AW was proven to have committed serious violations, including using false identity and misusing travel documents. Immigration has deported AW to the US.

“He has been subjected to administrative immigration measures including detention, deportation, and blacklisting,” the statement said.

Hendarsam Marantoko emphasized that this success demonstrates the effectiveness of immigration supervision and Immigration’s commitment to maintaining state security and sovereignty through the application of the selective policy principle and the spirit of “Immigration for the People.”
