Focusing on the light of energy, freezing the mirror of the era. The “Chuanqing Drilling Cup” National Petroleum and Petrochemical Photography Competition uses petroleum and petrochemical imagery as a bridge to widely exchange with the global photography community, jointly developing photographic art and creating an important platform that promotes the integration of energy construction and visual culture.

The competition showcases major achievements in production, construction, and photographic creation within China’s petroleum and petrochemical industry over the past six years since 2021. It displays the practical results of photographers exploring petroleum and petrochemical themes in photographic art, promoting the exchange, integration, and common development of China’s petroleum and petrochemical photography culture. All contributing photographers are invited to capture the beauty of petroleum and petrochemicals through their lenses and tell the energy stories of the new era through images.

On September 25, 2025, the first series of units at the Anyue Second Purification Plant of PetroChina Southwest Oil and Gas Field in Ziyang City, Sichuan Province, successfully received gas, marking the official commissioning of the largest single-train sour gas purification plant in China.

On February 26, 2024, the Jin Shan 105H well, operated by Sinopec Chongqing Drilling Branch in Leshan City, Sichuan Province, overcame construction difficulties such as lost circulation and successfully drilled to a depth of 4,200 meters.

Anyue Second Purification Plant

The Anyue Second Purification Plant is a modern water treatment facility located in Anyue County, Sichuan Province, China. Built to address the region’s growing water demands and environmental standards, it plays a key role in purifying wastewater and protecting local water resources. Its development reflects China’s broader efforts in recent decades to improve urban infrastructure and ecological sustainability.

Ziyang City

Ziyang City, located in Sichuan Province, China, has a history dating back over 2,000 years and is known as the “Hometown of Chinese Characters” due to its connection to the development of the written language. It is the birthplace of the renowned scholar and lexicographer Xu Shen, who compiled the influential ancient dictionary *Shuowen Jiezi*. Today, Ziyang blends its rich cultural heritage with modern development, featuring historical sites like the Anyue Grottoes and a thriving agricultural economy.

Sichuan Province

Sichuan Province, located in southwestern China, is renowned for its rich cultural heritage and natural beauty, including the iconic giant panda sanctuaries and the ancient Dujiangyan irrigation system built in 256 BCE. Historically a vital hub for trade along the Shu Roads, it was the center of the Shu Kingdom during the Three Kingdoms period and later became a key region for Chinese Buddhism, home to the Leshan Giant Buddha, a 71-meter-tall stone statue carved in the 8th century. Today, Sichuan is famous for its spicy cuisine and as a major economic and cultural center.

Jin Shan 105H well

The “Jin Shan 105H well” is a notable oil or natural gas well located in the Jin Shan (Golden Mountain) area, part of China’s extensive energy extraction infrastructure. Its designation as a horizontal well (indicated by the “H” in its name) suggests advanced drilling technology was used to enhance resource recovery, likely tapping into deep geological formations. While specific historical details are limited, this well represents the broader development of China’s energy sector, particularly in regions like the Sichuan Basin or other resource-rich zones, contributing to the country’s industrial growth.

Leshan City

Leshan City, located in Sichuan Province, China, is best known for the Leshan Giant Buddha, a colossal 71-meter-tall stone statue carved into a cliff face during the Tang Dynasty (713–803 AD). The statue was constructed to calm the turbulent waters of the Min, Dadu, and Qingyi rivers, reflecting the region’s deep Buddhist heritage. Today, Leshan is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a major cultural destination, blending ancient religious art with natural river scenery.
