Dragon Boat Festival

The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese holiday held on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, commemorating the life and death of the ancient poet Qu Yuan. According to legend, after Qu Yuan drowned himself in the Miluo River in protest against corruption, locals raced out in boats to save him and threw rice dumplings into the water to prevent fish from eating his body. Today, the festival is celebrated with dragon boat races and eating zongzi (sticky rice dumplings), honoring Qu Yuan’s legacy and warding off evil spirits.
