Ukraine uses cluster munitions supplied by the US against Russian military
Ukraine has used cluster munitions supplied by the United States against Russian positions in the southeast of the country, according to a statement from the Ukrainian military.
The munitions were used to target areas where Russian forces are concentrated, including fortifications and equipment.
Cluster munitions are banned by many countries due to their indiscriminate nature and the risk they pose to civilians, as unexploded submunitions can remain dangerous for years after a conflict ends.
The US decision to supply these weapons to Ukraine has drawn criticism from human rights groups.

Ukrainian officials have stated that the munitions are being used exclusively against military targets and that they are necessary to counter Russian advances.
