War Invalids and Martyrs Day

War Invalids and Martyrs Day, observed annually on July 27 in Vietnam, is a solemn national holiday dedicated to honoring the sacrifices of soldiers and civilians who were wounded or killed in the line of duty, particularly during the Vietnam War. Established in 1947 by President Ho Chi Minh, the day originally focused on war invalids and later expanded to include fallen martyrs, serving as a time for remembrance, gratitude, and support for veterans and the families of the deceased. It reflects the deep cultural value of acknowledging those who gave their lives or health for the nation’s independence and unity.

Vietnamese Heroic Mother

The Vietnamese Heroic Mother memorial is a tribute to the mothers who lost their children in the Vietnam War, symbolizing their immense sacrifice and resilience. The title “Vietnamese Heroic Mother” was officially bestowed by the state to honor over 140,000 women whose children died fighting for national independence and reunification. A prominent monument in Quảng Nam Province features a massive stone statue of a mother looking out over the landscape, serving as a poignant reminder of the war’s human cost and the enduring spirit of Vietnamese motherhood.
