Ukraine: Russia deploys additional forces near Kharkiv, preparing for new offensive
According to the Ukrainian military, Russia is concentrating additional troops near the city of Kharkiv in the northeastern part of the country, preparing for a new offensive. This was stated by a spokesman for the Ukrainian army, Nazar Voloshyn, in a comment to the Reuters news agency.
“The enemy is increasing its group. We are seeing the movement of military equipment, personnel, and ammunition,” Voloshyn said.
He noted that the Russian military is forming a new strike group, which may include up to 40,000 soldiers. The main goal of the offensive, according to Ukrainian intelligence, is to capture the city of Kharkiv.
Kharkiv is Ukraine’s second-largest city, located just 30 kilometers from the Russian border. In the first months of the war, Russian troops attempted to capture it but failed.
Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly warned that Russia may launch a new offensive in the Kharkiv direction in the spring or summer of 2024. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are preparing for the defense of the city.
In addition, local authorities are working to strengthen fortifications and evacuate civilians from dangerous areas.
