TANGERANGNEWS.com-The phenomenon of unregistered marriages, or marriages not yet recorded by the state, is still widespread in the Tangerang Regency community, especially among elderly couples.

In response, Deputy Regent of Tangerang Intan Nurul Hikmah has instructed the acceleration of the Integrated Marriage Isbat program to ensure legal protection for women and children.

Held to commemorate the 394th anniversary of Tangerang Regency, this program aims to provide legal status for 1,000 married couples free of charge through collaboration between the Tangerang Regency Government, the Tigaraksa Religious Court, and the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

Intan emphasized that the status of unregistered marriages is not merely an administrative issue, but a major obstacle to fulfilling family rights.

Without official documents such as marriage certificates, women risk losing inheritance rights, while children will have difficulty accessing school administration.

„Protection for women and children will be difficult. Children will have trouble accessing school administration, and women will lose protection of inheritance rights. This unregistered marriage status must be resolved immediately,“ stressed the Deputy Regent during a socialization event at the Tangerang Regent Office, Tigaraksa, Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

Given the urgency of this issue, the Deputy Regent firmly instructed district heads and the PKK Driving Team to quickly conduct data collection in their respective areas.

Data validation must be carried out accurately so that this program is properly targeted at those who truly need it.

„I ask district heads and all their staff, as well as the PKK, to accelerate the data collection and registration process. We want to cut through bureaucratic complexity and high costs so that the public can obtain legal certainty,“ she added.

The Integrated Marriage Isbat program is designed as a one-stop service involving the DPMPD Office, the Population and Civil Registration Office, the Religious Court, and the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

Through this synergy, couples who pass verification will immediately receive legal certainty regarding their marriage status through an integrated court session.

Intan hopes that with a target of 1,000 couples, tangible legal protection can be directly felt by families in Tangerang Regency as a gift for this year’s regional anniversary celebration.
