He is a declared opponent of the BJP. He does not believe in Hindutva. Always outspoken. Critics say his remarks sometimes cross the bounds of decency. After the change of government in the state, Kabir Suman may now face trouble. An organization named ‘Jatir Katha’ has lodged a complaint against him at the Netajinagar police station.
Members of that organization claim that Kabir Suman has insulted women. His words have hurt Hindu sentiments. The organization announced the filing of the complaint on social media. Members of the organization stated, “Kabir Suman considers himself an intellectual. The kind of language he uses towards women and Bengalis, we, as Bengalis, Hindus, and those who respect women, will not tolerate this.”

FIR FILED at Netaji Nagar PS, Kolkata, against “Kabir Suman”, singer and TMC supporter, for undermining the Hindu community.
Members of that organization said, “We will take all necessary steps to ensure the artist is sent to jail. Our organization’s workers have gathered because Hindu society cannot be disrespected or ridiculed. He must pay for what he said.” However, according to police sources, no FIR has been filed against Suman yet. Investigations are ongoing as per procedure. The singer is accused of making some derogatory comments on a television channel three years ago. The main complaint is based on that. The police will take action according to the law.
Notably, Kabir Suman is known as a Trinamool supporter. He previously contested the Lok Sabha elections on a Trinamool ticket. Last March, he stood beside Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee at the Dharmatala protest stage and spoke out against the CBI. However, after the saffron wave in Bengal, the artist made a 180-degree turn, saying, “I am not a Trinamool supporter!” In an interview, Suman said, “During the CPM or Trinamool regimes, women’s security was ensured. I hope the new government maintains that trend. If elections were held now, I would still vote for Trinamool. But if any such communist party emerges, even at this old age, I would try to become a member. I will compose songs for them. I will stand by them.”
