The Hajj season is an annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, that every able-bodied Muslim is required to undertake at least once in their lifetime. Its origins trace back to the time of the Prophet Abraham, who, according to Islamic tradition, built the Kaaba, and it was later re-established by the Prophet Muhammad in the 7th century. During this sacred period, millions of pilgrims perform a series of rituals over several days, commemorating the trials of Abraham, Hagar, and Ishmael.
Mecca
Mecca, located in western Saudi Arabia, is the holiest city in Islam and the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad. Its history dates back to pre-Islamic times as a trading hub centered around the Kaaba, which Muslims believe was built by Abraham and his son Ishmael. Today, it is the destination of the Hajj pilgrimage, a mandatory religious duty for Muslims, and is home to the Grand Mosque (Al-Masjid al-Haram).
