DEPOK (22/05/2026) – The Depok Archives and Library Office (Diskarpus) has recorded a massive expansion in local literacy infrastructure. The archives authority reported that the total inventory of reading materials at the Depok City Library has now surpassed 87,058 copies, covering a comprehensive variety of up to 37,821 book titles.

This expansion of library assets is optimized to respond to the increasingly dynamic information needs of the urban community, while also reducing the gap in access to reading materials at the local level.

Multi-Platform Differentiation: From Physical to Digital Ecosystem

The Head of Diskarpus Depok City explained that collection diversification is the government’s main strategy in providing inclusive literacy services. The library no longer relies solely on conventional formats but has migrated to digital and multimedia ecosystems.

Based on its classification, the types of library materials accessible to the public include:

  • Monograph Format: Printed books for fiction and non-fiction categories, as well as children’s books.

  • Digital Services: Electronic books (e-books) accessible via the e-Perpus Depok City mobile application, as well as integrated digital collections at the Spot Baca service in the Depok Open Space (DOS) area.

  • Serial Publications & Reference: Magazines, daily newspapers, and scientific reference documents.

Disability Inclusion and Local Information Zone

In addition to meeting general needs, Diskarpus Depok also integrates accessibility principles for vulnerable groups and a space for recognizing the city’s identity within the library building.

“We provide a special collection of braille books to ensure literacy rights for visually impaired individuals. Additionally, there is a Depok Corner zone that offers a draft collection of literature and information on the history and development of Depok City,” explained the Head of Diskarpus on Thursday (21/05).

Hybrid Procurement Scheme Based on Regional Budget and Grants

The Head of Diskarpus added that the growth curve of book volume in the library shows a positive trend each year. Inventory additions come from two funding lines: direct expenditure allocation from the Depok City Regional Budget and optimization of third-party donations (crowdsourcing).

Regional budget intervention is focused on purchasing new printed books and electronic book licenses. Meanwhile, collection expansion is also supported by book grants from the general public, commitments from Depok City State Civil Apparatus (ASN), and institutional stimulus from the National Library of Indonesia and relevant ministries.
