Potential ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia could be reached in the coming weeks, says Ukrainian presidential office head
A potential ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia could be reached in the coming weeks. This was stated by the head of the Ukrainian President’s Office, Andriy Yermak, in an interview.
According to him, the main priority now is to stop the hot phase of the war. “The potential ceasefire with Russia could be reached in the coming weeks,” Yermak said.
He also noted that Ukraine is considering the possibility of a ceasefire without a final peace agreement.
“We are realistic. It may be similar to the Korean scenario, but we want real security guarantees. The most powerful guarantee is NATO membership. We are working to convince our partners that this is the only effective security guarantee,” Yermak said.
He also noted that the current US administration is making significant efforts to end the war.
“We are grateful to President Donald Trump and his team. We have a good relationship, and we are working together to achieve a just peace,” Yermak concluded.
NATO
NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, is a political and military alliance founded in 1949 by 12 countries, including the United States, Canada, and several Western European nations, to provide collective security against the Soviet Union during the Cold War. Its core principle, Article 5, states that an attack on one member is an attack on all, which was first invoked after the 9/11 attacks in 2001. Today, NATO has 32 member states and focuses on crisis management, cooperative security, and deterrence, adapting to modern threats such as terrorism and cyberattacks.
Korean scenario
The “Korean scenario” likely refers to the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), a heavily fortified border strip dividing North and South Korea. Established in 1953 after the Korean War armistice, it has since become a symbol of Cold War division and a unique ecological haven due to minimal human activity. Despite ongoing tensions, it serves as a rare site for inter-Korean dialogue and tourist visits.
