Metro Jaya Police are investigating an alleged child prostitution network involving Japanese nationals in the Blok M area, South Jakarta.
The case emerged after viral reports of child sexual exploitation on social media in May 2026.
The Japanese Embassy is warning its citizens of severe criminal penalties in both Indonesia and Japan.
Shocking news about an alleged network involving foreign nationals from Japan in the Blok M area, South Jakarta, has drawn an immediate serious response from Metro Jaya Police and the Japanese Embassy.
The case surfaced after a viral post on social media platform X showed a Japanese national openly boasting and sharing information about the sexual exploitation of minors in Indonesia.
Metro Jaya Police moved quickly, deploying full resources from the Cyber Directorate, the Women and Children Service Unit, and the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Unit to hunt down the perpetrators.
“A team from the South Jakarta Metro Police has also gone down to investigate information about child prostitution in the Blok M area,” confirmed the Head of Public Relations for Metro Jaya Police, Police Commissioner Budi Hermanto, as quoted on Friday, May 15, 2026.
He assured that any information circulating, no matter how small, would be investigated seriously.
Issues Strong Warning
Not only the Indonesian police, but the Japanese Embassy in Jakarta also reacted strongly to this shameful report. On Wednesday, May 13, the Embassy issued a rare public warning directed at all its citizens in Indonesia.
In the warning on its website, the Japanese Embassy emphasized that Indonesian authorities will strictly enforce the Child Protection Law, where sexual relations with a minor are considered rape even with “consent.”
Furthermore, the Japanese Embassy issued a layered legal threat.
Japanese nationals proven to have exploited minors in Indonesia will not only face legal consequences here but will also be prosecuted in Japan for violations of their domestic laws.
