Chennai News: A fire at the Manali substation has caused widespread power outages in Chennai. The Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO), Rajesh Lakhani, confirmed the fire inside the substation. He stated that fire and rescue personnel are working diligently to extinguish the fire. Lakhani assured that power would be restored soon in 50 percent of the city, including areas such as RA Puram, Mylapore, and Puliyanthope. News of the power cut spread rapidly on the social media platform X. One user described the situation as a major blackout, comparing it to the Earth monitoring for power-saving mode. Lakhani clarified that the fire was not caused by overloading, as power consumption is typically low during this season. He suggested that a malfunction in some equipment might have led to the fire.
