In the Spring Kanto Regional Tournament, the second round was held on the 17th. Kanto Daiichi scored repeatedly with concentrated hits and won by a mercy rule against Yamanashi 2nd place. Kanto Daiichi will face Tsuchiura Nihon University High School in the quarterfinals on the 19th.

Kanto Daiichi’s third batter, Kokoro Tazawa, brought momentum with his performance on both offense and defense.

He first contributed on defense. In the third inning, ace pitcher Sho Ishii struggled with control, issuing three walks and facing a bases-loaded, two-out crisis. The next batter, Tokai University Kofu’s designated hitter, Fuma Tanaka, hit a sharp ball, but Tazawa jumped and made a great catch. He saved the team from a potential go-ahead situation and shouted “Yes!” in his heart.

Then in the fourth inning, he made his mark on offense. With one out and runners on second and third, he hit a fastball for a triple over the right fielder, adding two runs. “I was aiming for a sacrifice fly, but the ball carried more than I expected,” he said.

Tazawa is from a certain hometown. Captivated by the “drama” of Koshien, he has practiced hard envisioning himself standing on that stage.

“I want to gain experience by playing against top Kanto teams and go to Koshien this summer. I want to repay my family and friends back home,” he said firmly.
