Premanand Maharaj Health Update: Where the eternal song of Radha-Krishna’s love resonates, sad news has come for millions of devotees. The health of Vrindavan’s renowned saint Shri Hit Premanand Govind Sharan Maharaj has suddenly deteriorated. In this scorching heat with temperatures exceeding 43 degrees Celsius, his physical weakness has increased, leading to the indefinite suspension of his famous morning walk from Keli Kunj Ashram and his exclusive darshan.
This decision is a shock for devotees, but it is part of his long-standing health challenges. The ashram administration has appealed to all devotees to remain calm, avoid gathering at the ashram or on the roads, and pray for Maharaj ji’s speedy recovery. Devotees believe that through Radha Rani’s grace, he will soon return to them.

That moment on the night of May 17 when darshan was canceled
For the past few days, Maharaj ji had been feeling unwell. The situation became clearer on Sunday night, May 17. As usual, thousands of devotees had gathered for the walk from Keli Kunj Ashram to Saubhari Van. Maharaj ji was supposed to leave at 3 AM, but instead, his disciples arrived with a loudspeaker.
The disciples announced that due to Maharaj ji’s poor health, today’s walk was being canceled. They requested people not to crowd the roads and to return to their places. The devotees returned disappointed. This is not the first time events have been affected by health reasons, but this time the impact of the heat was clearly visible.
Premanand Maharaj’s Health Condition: A 21-year battle with kidney disease
Maharaj ji has been battling Polycystic Kidney Disease for the past 21 years (since approximately 2006). This is a genetic disease in which fluid-filled cysts form in the kidneys. These cysts gradually destroy normal kidney tissue, reducing kidney function and eventually leading to kidney failure.
ADPKD is the most common type, affecting both kidneys. Symptoms include fatigue, swelling, weakness, high blood pressure, and back or abdominal pain. Maharaj ji’s kidneys have now completely stopped working, and he is dependent on dialysis.
- Initially, dialysis was done 5 days a week.
- Now, depending on the condition, daily or nearly daily long sessions (5-6 hours) are conducted at the ashram.
- In recent videos, swelling and redness were visible on his face, common signs of kidney failure.
Nevertheless, Maharaj ji has politely declined devotees’ offers to donate a kidney, saying he does not want to cause others pain. In his discourses, he openly states that both kidneys have failed and asks what is left to recover. He says this body will function as long as Radha Rani wishes. This disease can be fatal, but Maharaj ji’s faith and discipline keep him strong. According to doctors, with dialysis, a healthy diet, medication, and mental peace, life can be prolonged.
Maharaj ji’s Daily Routine: A unique example of simplicity and service
Maharaj ji used to walk about 1.5 kilometers daily from Keli Kunj Ashram to Saubhari Van at 3 AM. Devotees would stand on both sides of the road. On normal days, 15-20 thousand people would come; on weekends or festivals, millions. During special occasions like Adhikamas, the crowd would increase even more. During the walk, he would give darshan, blessings, and sometimes have brief conversations. This was not just exercise for him but a medium of devotion. Despite the heat and weakness, he continued, but now it has been stopped on the advice of doctors and the ashram.
