Gandhinagar, Sanjana won the bronze medal in the women’s 77 kg category at the Asian Weightlifting Championships on Saturday, bringing India’s medal count to four.

Sanjana lifted a total of 220 kg (96 kg in snatch and 124 kg in clean and jerk) to secure third place in a field of four athletes. China’s Guifang Liao won the gold medal with a total of 265 kg (118 kg + 147 kg), while North Korea’s Kyong Ryong Kim took the silver medal with 260 kg (115 kg + 145 kg).

With her podium finish, Sanjana joined Komal Kohar (48 kg), Gyaneshwari Yadav (53 kg), and Ajit Narayan (71 kg), who have also won bronze medals for India at the ongoing continental championships. In the women’s 86 kg category, another Indian athlete, Vanshita Verma, finished fourth with a total lift of 220 kg.

Sanjana lifted 95 kg in the snatch and 125 kg in the clean and jerk. China’s Kuiting Peng won the gold medal with a total of 270 kg. Bahrain’s Alina Marushchak secured the silver medal with 265 kg, while South Korea’s Hyunju Jang won the bronze medal with a total of 245 kg.
