Slim Hopes for Public School Admissions in Depok, Parents Complain About Zoning and Favoritism

Monday, June 12, 2025 – The commitment of the Depok City Government and school principals to not accept “recommended” students has raised public questions. Although education is a constitutional right of citizens, many parents have complained about the frequent errors in the online PPDB system, and the suspected manipulation of coordinate points in the zoning path.

Several parents have mentioned that the distance from home is manipulated—what is near becomes far, and vice versa—thus reducing the chances of getting into public middle schools. Meanwhile, the Depok City Government denies any possibility of intervention, only offering private school alternatives with a subsidy of Rp1,400,000 for underprivileged citizens whose family cards are recorded in the DTKS.
