MANILA, Philippines — Stagnant creeks in Valenzuela City are now the target of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to address flooding during the rainy season.
Massive dredging operations have begun from the creek in PNR, Longos, up to Kalibingkoho Creek.
The DPWH-Metro Manila 3rd District Engineering Office, in partnership with the Valenzuela City Local Government Unit, Bulacan 2nd District Engineering Office, and National Food Authority, has started cleaning, clearing, and dredging operations in Longos Creek, alongside ongoing construction of pumping stations in the city.
These creeks serve as outfalls for barangays and national roads, including MacArthur Highway. However, due to garbage and debris, the capacity of the creeks is reduced, increasing the risk of flooding.
The project, under Oplan Kontra Baha, aims to restore proper water flow and reduce flooding in the area, ensuring the safety of residents in Meycauayan and Valenzuela.
The DPWH continues to collaborate with other government agencies to strengthen community preparedness against flooding, in line with the directive for the safety of every Filipino.
