The Emperor, Empress, and their eldest daughter attended the “41st World Veterinary Association Congress” held on the 21st. The congress aims to share the latest knowledge, research, and technology in veterinary medicine and build international networks. It was held in Japan for the first time in 31 years.
At the opening ceremony, the Emperor gave a speech in English, mentioning his experience living with three rescue dogs and four cats. “I am deeply impressed by the work of veterinarians who protect the health of animals and save their lives,” he said. He concluded by expressing hope that sharing knowledge at the congress would “lead to the realization of a society where people and animals can coexist better.”
Next, Professor Hiroshi Kida, specially invited from the International Joint Research Institute for Zoonotic Diseases, gave a keynote lecture on infectious diseases in humans and animals, which the family listened to attentively. Prior to the congress, on the 10th, the family received a lecture from Isao Kurauchi, president of the Japan Veterinary Medical Association, and others.
