According to Xinhua News Agency, Apple Inc. announced on the 20th that John Ternus, the company’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, will succeed Tim Cook as Apple’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) starting September 1, with Cook transitioning to Executive Chairman of the Board.

The announcement stated that Cook will continue as CEO through the summer to ensure a smooth transition with Ternus. As Executive Chairman, Cook will be involved in company matters, including engaging with policymakers around the world.

Ternus, 50, is from California and joined Apple’s product design team in 2001. During his tenure, he oversaw the hardware engineering of several groundbreaking products, managed hardware engineering teams for iPhone, iPad, Mac, AirPods, and others, and led the Apple Vision Products Group (VPG) and the hardware division of the robotics research and development team.

In March, Cook denied in an interview that he was about to retire, expressing his love for working at Apple every day and saying he cannot imagine life without Apple.
