The central government has increased the Dearness Allowance (DA) for all government employees by two percent. It will be effective from January 1. The government announces DA hikes twice a year, first for January and then for July.

The official notification for this usually comes later, often around festivals like Holi or Diwali. However, this time there was discontent among central government employees due to the delay in announcing the DA.

Increase in Take-Home Pay

The previous DA rate was 58% of the basic salary. This cabinet decision has now led to an increase in the take-home pay for employees amidst rising inflation.
