Is a meeting between two leaders from rival camps merely a courtesy? Many are unwilling to accept that.
A different political equation emerges in Jagaddal on the eve of the vote! Speculation has intensified following a meeting where a BJP candidate and former IPS officer visited the home of a senior Congress leader. Their discussion lasted about half an hour at the house in Sharatpalli. Questions have since begun to arise in political circles. Many consider such a meeting between two leaders from rival camps just before the vote to be unusual.
A section of local observers believe it is difficult to accept that this meeting was merely a courtesy. Discussion is growing over whether this meeting in an area with a strong legacy of Congress organization hints at any shift in the electoral calculus. However, both sides refuse to entertain such speculation. What are they saying?
A section of local observers believe it is difficult to accept that this meeting was merely a courtesy. Discussion is growing over whether this meeting in an area with a strong legacy of Congress organization hints at any shift in the electoral calculus. However, both sides refuse to entertain such speculation. The BJP candidate and former IPS officer stated, “I am going to seek the blessings of respected individuals in Jagaddal. He has been working in the area for many years. Meeting with a person like him and taking his blessings is important to me. There was no discussion about the vote. I did not go to ask for votes either. This was purely a courtesy meeting.”
The senior Congress leader said, “This is nothing new. Previously, candidates from all parties have met with me. I am in charge of the Congress for the district, that is why many people come. He has his ideology, I have mine. No political matters were discussed here.” He added, “My own party has a candidate in this constituency, I am working for him. There is no other question. He came to meet, I received him as a courtesy.” However, no matter how clear the statements, the questions do not cease. Speculation in Jagaddal’s political circles has only intensified over whether this meeting on the eve of the vote is merely a courtesy or hints at another equation at play.
