At 5:29 a.m. on April 11, China Eastern Airlines flight MU2572, arriving from Vientiane’s Wattay International Airport in Laos, landed smoothly at Wuhan Tianhe International Airport. This marked the successful completion of the first round trip on the new direct flight route between Wuhan and Vientiane.

The Wuhan-Vientiane direct flight route commenced operations on April 10, operating one round trip per week. The outbound flight, MU2571, departs from Wuhan at 23:05 every Friday (local time) and arrives in Vientiane at 01:05 the next day. The return flight, MU2572, departs from Vientiane at 02:05 every Saturday and arrives in Wuhan at 06:05.

Prior to the launch of this route, travelers from Wuhan to Vientiane typically had to transfer via cities like Kunming or Bangkok, with the entire journey taking about 10 hours. Now, with the direct flight, the actual flight time is approximately 2.5 hours, significantly improving travel efficiency.

This year marks the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Laos, also designated as the “China-Laos Friendship Year.” The opening of the Wuhan-Vientiane direct flight not only fills a gap in direct air connectivity from Hubei to Vientiane but also establishes a more convenient air corridor for personnel exchanges, economic and trade cooperation, and cultural interactions between the two regions.

In fact, exchanges and cooperation between Hubei and Laos have a long history. As early as 1992, a Hubei enterprise undertook the construction of the Lao section of the Kunming-Bangkok Highway, China’s first international expressway. In November 2023, a project for the Central Activity Center of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Youth League, constructed by a Hubei enterprise, was completed and handed over to Laos. In June 2024, the Vientiane Lasavong Square Wanda Vista Hotel, built by a Hubei enterprise, opened, becoming one of the local city landmarks. Relevant experts point out that Hubei and Laos have broad prospects for cooperation in agriculture, minerals, manufacturing, culture, and tourism. The direct flight route will provide more convenient conditions for businesses from both sides to conduct commercial inspections and investment cooperation.

To date, international routes from Wuhan offer direct connections to 16 cities in 13 countries worldwide, ranking among the top in central China. In the first quarter of this year, nearly 380,000 inbound and outbound passengers were processed at Tianhe Airport, including 62,000 foreign nationals, representing a year-on-year increase of 10%.

At 16:56 on April 10, Chang’an Airlines flight 9H8477 departed from Yichang Sanxia International Airport for Kuching, Malaysia, marking the official launch of the Yichang-Kuching international passenger route. This is also the first direct flight route from Sanxia Airport to Malaysia.

Passengers on this route are primarily Malaysian inbound tourist groups. The route is operated by Chang’an Airlines using Boeing 737-800 aircraft, with one flight every Friday. The outbound flight departs from Yichang at 16:50 and arrives in Kuching at 22:00. The return flight departs from Kuching at 23:00 and arrives back in Yichang at 04:05 the next day.

Relevant experts stated that the opening of the Yichang-Kuching direct flight route builds a convenient air bridge between western Hubei and Malaysia, providing great convenience for tourism, business exchanges, and family visits between the two regions. It further promotes economic, trade cooperation, and cultural interaction between Yichang and Southeast Asian countries.
